UPDATE FOR EVEREST REGION

UPDATE FOR EVEREST REGION

Current updated information on regulations regarding safe trekking in the Everest Region of Nepal. Please check for more recent updates if this particular update is older than a few months.

BUY THE TREK CARD

Once you get off the plane at Lukla, walk through Lukla and down on the trail to Phakding, where there is a permit office. Get your Trek Card there. It costs Rs. 2000 each. You will need to show this at checkpoints along the way. This is a locally implemented safety mechanism.

PAY THE NATIONAL PARK FEES

At Monjo, which is the border of the Sagarmatha National Park, pay your park fees and get your details recorded. This costs Rs. 3000 for third-country nationals

ENJOY YOUR TREK IN THE REGION

There are only a few checkpoints where your card will be checked. Along with your insurance and numbers on the trek card, please keep these handy. This is meant to keep you safe. Enjoy your trek responsibly.

While it is not mandatory to take a guide while trekking in the Everest Region, we highly recommend taking one - especially when you are trekking in high-altitude zones and high passes. They help troubleshoot, are a conduit to the local culture, and keep you safe.
